Detects leaks
November 1st 2004

Johnston Pipes has opted for a Sprectroline fluorescent leak detection system to improve safety and offer cost savings at its Shropshire site.

Available from Advanced Engineering, Sprectroline’s method for detecting oil-based fluid leaks is based on its Oil-Glo fluorescent dye. A small amount is added to the system and allowed to circulate. When fluid escapes from machinery, the dye escapes with it and remains at the leak site.

Scanning with a handheld Sprectroline UV or UV/blue inspection lamp makes the dye fluoresce a bright yellow-green colour, allowing the exact source of the leak to be pinpointed instantly.

Dye can be left in the system indefinitely, with no ill effect.

An improvement at Johnston Pipes has been indicated by the drop in monthly consumption of top-up oil, spill treatments and containment products.
