Noise exposure made easy
November 1st 2004

Pulsar Instruments says that while acoustic professionals find the task of industrial noise measurement a simple one, there are some industrial safety officers who are put off by the complexity of many modern sound level meters.

The Assessor offers a solution. While being a two channel, fully computerised instrument, it has just four keys. One key is used to turn on and start the instrument measuring for as long as needed. At the end of the measurement, when ‘stop’ is pressed, the instrument automatically computes and displays all the metrics, including LEP, d, and LCPK.

To meet international standards, such as IEC 61672:2003, a ‘calibrate’ key is provided and this is also automatic.

A Pulsar acoustic calibrator is fitted over the microphone and the ‘cal’ key pressed. The Assessor does the rest, setting the calibration value into memory and correcting the measurements.

The final key, coded ‘restart’ is an end pause key as ‘stop’ while displaying the whole of the measurement, is in reality only a conventional pause key. The user can therefore continue with the same measurement after a break without having to remember what pause means.

The instrument also meets BS EN 60651 and 60804 and is available in both Type 1 and Type 2 forms as models 81 and 82.
