Simple solutions November 1st 2007 Pulsar Instruments' Assessor has just four buttons and a display yet gives the user full data on all the parameters the European Directive and HSE require. A point and shoot meter, it gathers in one measurement all data to demonstrate compliance with the regulations. The original instrument was never intended to be used as a diagnostic tool to determine the choice of hearing protection. However, the latest Assessor changes this and allows users to make quick and accurate measurements to select appropriate hearing protection for a wide range of noises in many different areas. The new Assessor has only one extra button, so retains its simplicity. It uses the HML or High- Medium-Low selection method described in the HSE web site. In use, it is simply turned on and the reading allowed to settle. It then automatically measures all legally required parameters and gives the C minus A metric, more correctly called LCeq - LAeq.
