Sound power measurements September 1st 2007 SOUNDSOUND POWER MEASUREMENTS
The EU directives on noise
labelling of many types of
machinery, both industrial and
domestic, are now implemented
into UK law. These require
products to carry a noise label that
gives the sound power level. From
this, the consumer can choose the
product with the lower noise
emission and the expert can
calculate the actual sound pressure
level that will be generated in any
given acoustic climate.
Methods for the determination of
sound power are defined in a
series of British standards and can
be quite complex, requiring a
number of measurements and
detailed knowledge of the acoustic
climate in which measurements
were made. A software package
from Norsonic AS simplifies the
procedure. It implements the exact
requirements of the standards,
guides the user through set-up,
controls measurement procedure
and post processes results to give
the overall sound power level. More articles from Campbell Associates Ltd: |
