ATEX approval for leak detector
March 1st 2009

Crowcon Detection Instruments has extended its agreement with the technology development arm of a Japanese gas utility to offer the new LaserMethane mini methane leak detector. The LMm is lightweight and compact, providing users with a long range instrument capable of detecting ppm levels of methane from a distance of up to 100m. Not just portable, but truly handheld, the device weighs 600g and measures 70mm x 179mm x 42mm.With automatic ranging, colour LCD, 5h battery, extended temperature range and IP54, it complements the LaserMethane Detector (LMD) and uses the next generation of Tuneable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy.

ATEX approval allows the LMm to be used in Zone 1 areas for on-plant use as well as for detecting escapes in hard to reach areas. This means there is no need for personnel to put themselves at risk by entering suspected escape areas.
