RFID in case of impact
May 1st 2006

Companies wanting to safeguard their staff, equipment and facilities in areas where forklift trucks are in use can now integrate the latest ShockSwitch RFID from Lamerholm Electronics into their existing network.

ShockSwitch is a realtime link between a forklift truck in the plant and a PC in the office and collects data regarding use of the truck.

The system conforms completely to the 802.11 standard, without the need for modification.

The unit is attached to the truck and transmits event data via a wireless network to the accompanying software. Users can monitor an unlimited number of trucks and these can be programmed to send data straight away or to wait until a number or pre-defined events have occurred.

However, with incidents that have important safety implications - such as impacts - then an alert is sent immediately. The time, date and driver ID are recorded and transmitted immediately for investigation and analysis. The unit can also be programmed to immobilise the truck once an impact has begun and a further option to sound a horn for a specified period of time.
