Shields contractors September 1st 2007 As part of the company's
continued commitment to safety,
the entire range of low voltage
distribution equipment from the
Merlin Gerin and Square D brands
of Schneider Electric is being
fitted, as standard, with fingerproof
voltage test points.
There are occasions, particularly
during commissioning and testing,
when it is impossible to avoid
working on electrical distribution
equipment that has live incoming
connections. The need to prove a
voltage present or absent has been
highlighted by the HSE as part of
the testing process in an effort to
reduce the potential for incidents.
To address the inevitable hazards
created by such a situation,
Schneider Electric now fits robust
screens where needed to shield
incoming connections in all of its
low-voltage distribution
switchboards. To facilitate testing,
the screens are either drilled with
test point holes that restrict finger
access, while allowing the entry of
test probes, or are clearly marked
for the installer to drill these holes.
Screens are IP2X rated. More articles from Schneider Electric Ltd: |
