Testing for hire kit November 1st 2007 Clare Instruments has developed a product to verify the safety of 3- phase electrical equipment or tools used within the hire and rental sector. Companies hiring out this type of equipment are duty bound by HSE legislation, and specifically the Electricity at Work Regulations, which require that rental equipment be safety tested before each hire. The new Clare test kit enables all 3-phase electrical equipment to be thoroughly and safely tested without the need by the service engineer to dismantle the plug and fit links between phases, to ensure that the mandatory flash/Hipot test is correctly applied. It achieves this by having internal HV switching that is controlled by an isolated selector switch. The test kit is itself fed from a low voltage supply and test selection is controlled by a rotary switch which is fully isolated from the test voltages used. Each of the three phases is tested sequentially, using adapter leads that cater for all typical three phase product configurations. The kit is said to enhance productivity and comes with 16 and 32 Amp configurations for 3-phase products having 3P+E, 3P+N+E configurations.
