Golden helmet
July 1st 2007

Steve Glover, an electrician working for Colas, has been awarded the Centurion Golden Helmet for surviving an industrial accident without a fatal or serious injury, while wearing a Centurion Safety Products' 1125 safety helmet. The accident occurred in spite of safety standards being rigorously adhered to. A cast iron cap from an old lamp column had somehow split over the years and suddenly fell apart when the column was being lifted by a crane to a height of about 9m. One half, weighing 900gm, hit Glover on the head. Thanks to his helmet, the only injury he sustained was a cut to the back of the neck caused by a piece of metal flicking under the helmet rim.
