Hearing aids
January 1st 2005

3M offers hearing protection products that will help companies meet the requirements of the new European Directive 2003/10/EEC that is due to become national law in February 2006.

Vicki Nash, product manager, says “Under the new legislation, a new Limit Value of 87dB(A) at the ear must not be exceeded and hearing protection must be made available where the sound levels are at or above 80dB(A) and strictly enforced where the sound levels reach or exceed 85dB(A).” Products offered by 3M include disposable and re-usable ear plugs, and ear muffs that offer moderate to high noise attenuation. Helmet mounted versions and hygiene kits are available for some models. 3M electronic ear muffs are available in FM versions that help reduce the feeling of isolation, while its level dependent ear muffs help improve audibility of vital communication and emergency sounds in noisy environments. Helmet mounted ear muffs are also available.
