Launch of overhead fall protection system
November 1st 2005

A new overhead fall protection system has been introduced by Uniline Safety Systems for use on vehicles or structures where the system must be installed above the user's head.

The company says that, unlike other overhead systems, Uni-8 is able to span up to 30m between intermediate supports and has an attachment carriage that glides over intermediate brackets for ease of movement.

The equipment uses a very stiff stainless steel cable that reduces deflection in the system in the event of a fall, increasing its potential application. Energy absorbers control loads at the structure and the system can support multiple workers.

Uni-8 can be validated for suitability by using Uniline for Windows software. This enables the company's local distributors to calculate loads in the system and deflection in the cable by entering customer specific variables. This produces a report giving the correct set-up calculation to ensure maximum safety.

Simon Luke, MD at Uniline Safety Systems, comments "The system is of particular benefit in the industrial sector, where vehicle access fall protection is often restricted by minimal ground clearance or by spacing between steel beams. Uni- 8 limits the required ground clearance through the selection and pre-tension load of the cable and reduces the need to attach frequently to the overhead structure."
