ESAB is publishing a free CD-ROM that provides guidance on risks and safety measures to be taken when performing welding and cutting operations.

The CD covers everything from ergonomics and the risk of electrocution to protection from lasers and electromagnetic fields. In addition to down-to-earth explanations and hard-hitting facts, the guide contains many simple, low-cost measures that can be taken to improve health and safety.

Divided into four main sections, it covers: the welder’s working environment; machine safety and mechanical protection; the cutting operator’s environment; and reference literature.

Most of the material centres around MIG, MAG, MMA and TIG welding both manual and mechanised processes plus gas, plasma, laser and waterjet cutting.

Most of the safety measures outlined are simple, costing little or nothing to implement.
