KEEPS ENGINE PARTS FLOWING May 1st 2005
Cummins Engine Co. awarded Keymas Control & Automation the contract to design and supply a closed-loop powered conveying system to transport and control the flow of containers carrying piston and con-rod assemblies between workstations.
Pistons are selected from a Kardex carousel, assembled to the con-rod, loaded into containers and conveyed on lineshaft-driven powered rollers to a series of manually operated, pneumatically controlled blade stops.
At the workstations, operatives use the hand valve control to stop the containers, complete assembly work, then release the container to the engine assembly area. Containers are married to engines in lineset sequence on to the main engine assembly line.
Two lift-up gate sections enable operator access to machines within the circuit; to enable truck access, two modular conveyor sections were installed. When access gates are raised, power to the conveyor is automatically cut. More articles from Keymas Limited: |
