 LONGER LIFE
May 1st 2005

Balluff believes its new ceramic coating technology will extend sensor life in welding applications.

The conditions present in resistance welding are extremely harsh. In particular, weld slag and weld flash lead to high rates of sensor failure. Balluff’s WO1 ceramic coating contains special additives that are said to ensure that the sensor: outperforms thermoset materials and thermoplastic materials; resists weld slag build-up, high heat and mechanical damage; maintains sensing range and sensor’s performance; and increases the sensor’s life and productivity.

The coating can be applied to inductive proximity sensors with virtually no sensor performance degradation. It will initially be available on selected Balluff Weld Field Immune and Factor 1 sensors in both flush and non-flush mount versions.
