Danobat improves control and productivity
August 23rd 2006

Danobat has introduced its latest control system for its range of high performance bandsaws. While most machines rely on the operators to set the blade speed and down feed of their machine, the Danobat PASO PASO system takes that responsibility away from the operator.

According to the company, the system is sophisticated, yet simple to use, in that the operator simply chooses the material to be cut from a list of material groups, selects the material size, and specifies whether it is bar, tube or section.

The machine then takes over and sets its own blade speed and automatically sets the correct downfeed rate. The downfeed rate will then automatically vary throughout the cut to achieve the optimum cutting rates and give optimum blade life. For example, with round bar it will enter the cut at a reduced rate to protect the blade, and once the blade is in the material, it will increase the feed to the optimum cutting rate, automatically slowing down as the cross section of material increases and increasing as it passes through the centre of the material and the cross section decreases.

While most material specifications are pre-programmed into the machine, there are spare programmes so that companies can add their own specific material groups, if required.

And although many machines offer blade deviation monitors which basically monitor the deflection of the blade and turn the machine off when pre-determined parameters have been reached, the Danobat has intelligent blade deviation. Instead of simply turning the machine off, it will automatically adjust cutting parameters to bring the level of deflection back to acceptable and pre-determined levels.

A number of Danobats using the new control system have been installed throughout the country, with customers reporting significant increases in production rates together with increased blade life.

Another notable feature is automatic ‘running in’ of a new blade whether bi-metal or carbide. This is an area that tends to be neglected and results in premature blade failures. With the Danobat system it not only eliminates the guess work, it also allows the operator to input a specific make of blade to ensure that the correct running in procedure is being followed.
