Energy management made logical
July 27th 2006

Schneider Electric says the acquisition of Canadian firm Power Measurement means customers now have a single source of supply for a comprehensive set of power monitoring and control solutions.

Integrating the company’s ION range into the PowerLogic energy metering and management solution (sold under its Merlin Gerin brand) enables full application coverage at every level – from the utility’s distribution grid to the end user’s cabling circuits.

Among the new products offered under the PowerLogic ION range are the 7550 and 7650 analysers – intelligent energy metering and control devices that provide accurate true RMS measurements of voltage, current power and energy. The company says they also house extensive I/O capabilities and comprehensive logging as well as advanced power quality measurement and compliance verification functions.

According to Schneider Electric, the PowerLogic ION meters can be used to replace numerous other transducers, traditional meters and control circuits. Pre-configured, they can be used straight from the box or set up to suit individual needs. The company says both meters can be used as standalone devices, but are fully exploited when used with the PowerLogic ION software as part of an enterprise energy management (EEM) system.

Typical applications include revenue monitoring; substation automation; power quality monitoring; commercial or industrial operations metering; demand and power factor control; and distributed generation monitoring and control.
