Improving dewpoint measurements Laser Hygrometers make the difference in dewpoint measurement July 27th 2006 G6 laser-based hygrometers from IMA are making a big improvement where moisture measurement in natural gas or other gases is a critical parameter, preventing corrosion, or gas pipelines being blocked by hydrate formation.
This new technique is improving dewpoint measurements in many important gas streams including nuclear reactor and gas processing system applications in the UK. Using tunable diode lasers to monitor trace moisture levels allows dramatic improvements in accuracy and speed of response and, as a non-contact measurement system, reduced maintenance levels are another benefit.
Both laser and detector are behind a window and are therefore unaffected by highly contaminated gas streams thereby allowing unmanned sites or areas were maintenance personnel are at a minimum to be considered. The G6 system from IMA integrates the measurement cell and sample conditioning system and has the benefit of remote support via modem.
