A sideways move for the better
August 20th 2007

Timber framed housing supplier, Pattrick and Thompsons, is reaping the benefits of a Combilift 4-way sideloader which handles raw materials and bulky finished product in the tight confines of its new production facility at its site in Kings Lynn.

The growth in the timber frame sector necessitated the conversion of an existing building on the site to accommodate an increase in production. Due to the tight confines in and around the building, the existing conventional sideloaders and counterbalance forklifts would not be capable of handling the large volume of both incoming raw materials and bulky finished product, and that a specialist solution was going to be required in the form of the 5 tonne capacity diesel powered Combilift C5000SL 4-way sideloader.

“The versatility and manoeuvrability of the Combilift sidleoader have been key to the successful operation of the new production line” says MD Keith Arnett. “We can offload packs of timber with it, it can be exactly positioned to feed the lines and then manoeuvres the finished panels through a narrow door and very tight corners. The truck’s ability to work both inside and out and its superior manoeuvrability over conventional sideloaders has also considerably speeded up operations.”

The Combilift 4-way sideloader was developed after feedback from traditional sideloader users who wanted a more manoeuvrable machine for better storage density which could block stack, able to work in their pre-existing aisle widths. The three wheel configuration ensures excellent stability, especially on uneven ground where 4-wheel machines can lose ground contact with one wheel, resulting in a loss of traction.
