Getting to the core of the problem
February 23rd 2007

When Britton Decoflex had a major problem lifting heavy rolls of film weighing 320 kgs, they turned to Handling Concepts

The rolls are received with the core vertical on the delivery pallet. In order for the roll to be presented to the printing machine, however, the roll needs to be horizontal.

Handling Concepts designed and engineered a purpose made Roll Handler to safely grip the roll via the core, lift and turn through 90° and move with ease to the production pallet.

This concept has now replaced the manual handling problem and also led to a reduction in edge damage to the rolls. In fact, Mr David Luffman, Health & Safety Manager at Britton Decoflex, remarked "we have a strong policy to improve manual handling issues and Handling Concepts have solved this difficult problem."

To maximise use of this equipment, they now have a designated area where all rolls are turned for the whole factory. They are also considering an identical system for another production plant.
