Slip prevention June 25th 2007 Because of the nature of its work and the constant use of oil, Howco Whitham a leading steel stockholder in Sheffield, used to have a problem with slippery floor surfaces, particularly near the work-benches.
After examining several alternatives, the management of this heavy industrial plant solved the problem by laying many metres of slip resistant Vynagrip matting. The matting was supplied by Rubber Safety Hygiene, one of the Plastex distributors.
Manufactured from PVC in a grid-welded format, Vynagrip is oil and chemical resistant and is very hard-wearing. The open grid format will drain and dissipate spillage while the extra deep etched top surface provides the UK’s highest level of slip resistance (DIN 51130:R12). The matting is also comfortable to stand on and helps reduce working fatigue which in turn increases productivity.
The flexible composition also provides cushioning which reduces accidental damage to components and the floor if accidentally dropped. It will contour over rough or uneven surfaces and is easily cut and shaped to fit around machines or equipment. Another advantage is that the matting can be cut into appropriate lengths so it can be easily rolled and resited.
Vynagrip is available in widths of 60, 91 and 122cm and in rolls or modules. Standard colours are red, blue and black while Vynagrip Plus has safety alert yellow edges. Information and samples are available from Plastic Extruders.
