RS Components celebrates seventy years
October 26th 2007

From power tools to protective clothing, RS Components supplies a diverse range of products through a choice of purchasing channels and delivery methods.

The company celebrates its 70th anniversary this year, now stocking over 135,000 products from over 1300 suppliers. A further 100,000 electronic and electromechanical products are available online.

With 1.5m customers worldwide, RS has evolved from the small business set up in 1937 to provide radio repair shops with spare parts.

“Today, an order is placed every second somewhere in the world,” says Klaus Goeldenbot, general manager for RS UK.

RS is involved in all stages of manufacturing, from research and development through to pre-production, maintenance and repair. The company plans to keep its product range updated, “Not only will new products continue to be launched regularly, but technology solutions covering all accessories and ancillaries will be frequently refreshed,”says Richard Eden, electronics market development manager.

RS has seen many changes to its business over the past 70 years, notably in the growth of internet sales. It has websites in 17 languages covering 70 countries and predicts further eCommerce expansion. It also places a firm emphasis on environmental awareness.

“We currently report on our corporate social responsibility, but we want to do much more than that,” says Klaus Goeldenbot. RS is launching an information booklet on WEEE legislation and is currently working with primary transportation partners DHL on environmental services initiatives.
