Food industry embraces new fuel saving steam boiler
September 17th 2007

Steam boilers account for a large percentage of energy use in food manufacture and are vital for cooking and sterilisation processes.

The Byworth Yorkshireman2 steam boiler is one of the most fuel efficient boiler of its type due not only to the XiD boiler tube, but to the quality and integrity of design and engineering. Fuel savings will obviously vary according to the efficiency of the existing boilers, but can be between 2 and 20%.

A leading mushroom producer in Lancashire, Drinkwater Mushrooms, not only purchased its sixth Byworth boiler to keep up with spiralling expansion, but purchased the first Yorkshireman2. Drinkwater Mushrooms was said to be so impressed by the significant reduction in heavy oil usage and the rear end temperature (over 40degC lower than similar boilers) that discussions are taking place regarding a second installation.

A highly successful manufacturer of Asian cuisine, a fast growing south eastern Dairy, a ready meal producer in the North West and a long established confectionery group are all now, or soon to be enjoying the fuel saving benefits of Yorkshireman2 boilers.

The recent catastrophic flooding in South Yorkshire caused irreparable damage to two boilers used for heating a vast steel mill. However when the two Dalesman2 2500kw/hr 8 bar boilers incorporating XiD tubes are commissioned, running costs will be slashed. XiD tubes increase the heat transfer from the firetubes by up to 80% due to the internal spiral ribs causing a complex boundary layer separation and reattachment phenomenon.
