Flexible reciprocating nozzles for drying and cleaning with damage
January 23rd 2008

A new drying/cleaning technique designed for conveyorised/continuous applications that demand vigorous air movement action has been introduced by Air Control Industries of Chard. It is particularly appropriate where products might be vulnerable to contact or surface damage.

Based upon ACI’s cost-efficient, blower-powered AirKnife technology, the new system employs a bank(s) of flexible nozzles that move back and forth across the conveyor while delivering high volumes of air at low pressure. This simple reciprocating action combined with high-volume, low-pressure air delivery effectively dislodges residual moisture, dust or debris, even when trapped in awkward places, to achieve greater efficiency.

The nozzles, which are fabricated from a material that is both flexible and hardwearing, are simple to fit and adjust. The flexibility of the material means the nozzles may be hit or deflected by travelling product without risk of damage and then return immediately to their normal operating state. This last feature permits air to be delivered close to product for further enhancement of drying/cleaning functions.

ACI’s new system is suitable for drying or cleaning many different products, including: automotive bodies/components, produce, crates and large intricate engineered components.
