PWE gets off to a flying start
April 7th 2008

The Plant & Works Exhibition (PWE) –www.pwe08.com – is new to the line-up of engineering and manufacturing trade shows at the NEC this April. A brand new event for 2008, Plant & Works Exhibition is proving to be a highly attractive proposition to exhibitors.

Exhibitors at PWE will be a mix of suppliers of plant and maintenance equipment and related products and services. Innovative products will be showcased, such as the Leonova Infinity from SPM Instrument UK, the very latest in multi-function data collection. A versatile instrument, the Leonova Infinity’s state-of-the-art technology makes it capable of Vibration Analysis, Shock Pulse, Shock Pulse Spectrum, Laser Alignment and Balancing, amongst a whole host of other techniques.

The evolution of infrared continues at Plant and Works Exhibition – FLIR Systems is showing its latest generation infrared cameras, the widest range in the industry. The range provides a camera to suit every plant maintenance application and every budget, from the simple find-it-fix-it jobs through to those that demand the best that the technology can offer.

FLIR Systems thermal imaging cameras are now highly compact – and getting smaller – and much lighter but no less robust. They are also packed with many more features than their forerunners of just a few years ago. This growth path has given FLIR Systems’ thermal imaging cameras much greater application scope and that trend continues apace.

The latest version of Agility including new Mobile PDA solutions and web services for corporate integration will also be on display at Plant and Works Exhibition. Agility is an affordable, easy to use maintenance management system (CMMS). It provides all the features required to easily manage breakdown and preventive maintenance work orders and the associated spare parts and resources for small maintenance departments through to multi-site corporate businesses.

With Agility, customers can link documents, drawings, manuals and photographs to any record and the system will keep all users informed of work order status changes through customizable e-mail messages and Red, Amber, Green KPI charts. These capabilities mean that engineering information and best practice is easily accessible and all departments within the business are kept informed of the progress being made by the maintenance team. Agility is an attractive easy to use browser based solution built on the Microsoft .Net platform and SQL Server 2005.

Another company launching new systems for 2008 is Pruftechnik, a market leader in Laser Alignment and Condition Monitoring. Leading its product launch are three systems with ATEX intrinsically safe certification: OPTALIGN Smart and ALIGNEO are now available ATEX-approved for use in petrochemical installations, and complementing these is the ATEX version of the Vibration Analyser – VIBXPERT, the fastest intrinsically safe data collector and analyser available today. The company will also launch three new systems this year for geometric applications, including precision measurement of structures such as machine foundations.

From innovative to long-established – Hansen Transmissions, with 85 years’ experience to call on, will be exhibiting drive solutions for a wide range of applications including bucket elevators, cement kilns, conveyor systems, industrial mixers, water treatment systems, paper mills and pulpers. Hansen not only repairs and services its own products, but also provides the same high standard on other manufacturers’ gear units, aiming to get an engineer to any site in the UK or Ireland within 24 hours, 365 days a year.

Training is key in any industry, and Technical Training Solutions will be on hand at PWE to discuss practical engineering skills training for industry. The company offers a range of training courses including Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance Skills, PLC Maintenance, 17th Edition Wiring Regulations, AC Inverter Drives, Pneumatics, Hydraulics and others. The emphasis is on safety and a practical, hands-on approach wherever possible and the courses provide useful skills in short, highly-focused training events.

The aim of PWE is to reflect the ‘multi-tasking’ required of today’s plant, works and maintenance engineers by covering a comprehensive range of relevant topics. The show will be split into three main categories: Core Maintenance Products & Services, Energy Management and Ancillary Services. Energy Management is expected to attract particular interest because of the growing importance for many high energy-consuming companies of reducing consumption and improving their management of energy.

PWE 2008 and its co-locating shows Drives & Controls, Electrex, Air-Tech and IFPEX will run from 22nd to 24th April 2008 at the Birmingham NEC. More information can be found at www.pwe08.com

Exhibitor highlights (26th March 2008)

The forthcoming Air-Tech show – www.airtech08.com – is clearly the place where major players in the compressed air industry want to be seen. After a successful debut in 2006, the exhibition is returning to its NEC home confident of its position as the UK’s number one forum for compressed air and pneumatics businesses. ..
