New forklift truck pallet data collection system
May 3rd 2009

Avery Weigh-Tronix has launched a forklift truck pallet data collection system for the freight industry. Combining a truck scale with a bar code scanner, the system allows operators to check the progress and loading of freight without having to leave the safety of their cab.

The system was developed in conjunction with Erwin SICK and is designed to collect pallet data and weight during loading or unloading, so there is no loss in speed or efficiency. An onboard indicator, the WI130 from Avery Weigh-Tronix, guides the driver through the process and stores the data, which can then be downloaded at the end of the shift.

Reports can show the pallet’s weight, time of unloading and reloading, its origin and destination, its contents and the total number of pallets in that consignment. The system also records who loaded and unloaded the pallet providing accountability if there is any damage.

With fuel costs now a major consideration, it is important that outbound vehicles are fully loaded, but not over the legal weight limit. Installing a forklift truck scale enables operators to have far greater control of the loading process, enabling more outbound cargo to be loaded safely within its capacity.
