Raising the bar for steam boiler efficiency

A British boiler making company is raising the bar on steam boiler efficiency. Byworth Boilers, based in Yorkshire, have added another energy saving concept to their ranges of fuel efficient steam and hot water boilers.

Two Yorkshireman2 steam boilers, rated at 3500 kgs/hour are currently being installed in a Laundry in Surrey. The Laundry will enjoy running possibly the most fuel efficient boilers available today. This is achieved by a combination of X-ID high performance firetubes, a flue gas economiser, and the ground – breaking air to air heat exchanger which preheats the combustion air. Overall these boilers should achieve a 94.3% nett efficiency.

The combustion air is heated by passing through banks of tubes through which pass hot flue gases. The heated combustion air means that less fuel is used by the burner to achieve the same performance.

Byworth Boilers’ managing director Peter Baldwin commented, “We have placed a great deal of importance on R&D in the past few years, the goal being reduced energy costs for our customers. As an independent boiler maker, with all production taking place here in the UK and having our own expert design team, developing new concepts is perhaps relatively easy for us.”
