March 1st 2008 The protective rollers used on
roller chains are intended to
extend the working life of the
chains by reducing fatigue caused
by running impacts and to provide
wear resistance. This protection
has been enhanced for Rexnord
roller chains through the use of
seamless rollers, which increase
the working life of chain and give
smoother, quieter running.
The company says tests have
shown its seamless rollers can
withstand approximately 25%
higher vertical loads than
conventional curled rollers.
Rexnord produces chain with
two different types of seam-free
rollers; one is cold formed the
other is produced from precision
tubes. Cold formed rollers are
heat treated and undergo shot
peening. They are then calibrated
to ensure accurate parallelism and
uniform wall thickness. The rollers
are used on Rexnord chain sizes
