Air for energy project March 1st 2010 A project to convert domestic
and industrial waste into
energy at Dargavel in
Scotland uses compressed air
from an Atlas Copco
Compressors' system.
The advanced thermal
treatment facility, designed and
built by Ascot Environmental,
is operated by ScotGen. It will
offer a commercially viable
non-landfill alternative for
60,000t of waste per annum.
The plant will process waste
from domestic, agricultural
and industrial sources and
will generate 6.2MW of
electrical power per year for
the National Grid. Heat from
the gasification process will
be used by local industries.
The installation comprises
two network-linked GA37+
8bar, full-feature, oil-injected
rotary screw compressors with
integrated air treatment and
downstream filtration, an
OSC600 oil/water condensate
separator, EWD 330 electronic
condensate drain, 3000L air
receiver, and ES4i integrated
sequence controller.
The system supplies all
plant and instrument air, with
its main application being in
the flue gas filtration facility. More articles from Atlas Copco Ltd: |
