Extends tyre life
January 1st 2007

The Process Filtration Division of Parker Hannifin has supplied its TruckTyreSaver nitrogen generator system to Volvo Truck Centres in Sweden, enabling the Centres to provide a fast, efficient tyre filling service.

The company says that using nitrogen to fill tyres rather than air enables long term stability of the tyre pressure to be maintained due to slower leakage, while offering better grip.

The company also says that it can result in reduced fuel consumption, longer tyre life, enhanced safety and the elimination of oxidation within the tyre which can lead to compromised strength and elasticity of the rubber.

The TruckTyreSaver is based on Parker's hollow fibre membrane technology, which makes it possible to separate a compressed air feed into nitrogen and an oxygen enriched air stream which permeates through the fibre walls.

Parker believes its fibres to be more efficient than competing materials, allowing the diameter of the fibre to be increased and resulting in purer nitrogen.

Up to 35 large vehicle tyres can be filled per hour.
