Designed to provide one drive for all applications
November 1st 2003

The latest inverter from WEG Electric Motors (UK) is essentially one drive for all applications, integrating selectable, V/F, sensorless vector, closed loop vector and fieldbus operation in a single product. The CFW-09 offers high performance across the power range from 1.5 to 700kW due to its 32-bit RISC microprocessor. The level of control provided by the unit ensures fast dynamic response and absolute control of speed and torque in the most demanding of applications, such as winding/rewinding, mixing, dosing and forming. In addition to its Vectrue Technology, the CFW09 architecture includes an optimal braking feature for applications that require reduced braking times or the stopping of high inertia loads. The optimal braking feature is said to provide sufficient braking performance to eliminate the need for the resistor in most applications. This results in cost savings and enables highly dynamic performance drive systems with braking torques of about five times that of typical dc braking systems. The CFW-09 can be used in standalone drive applications or an an intelligent node in high-speed factory communications networks. to assist easy network integration, the drive is supported by a range of optional plug-in Profibus DP, DeviceNet and Modbus RTU fieldbus modules. Where more simplified communication is required, RS 232 serial interface kits are provided, and optional I/O expansion boards include an RS 485 serial interface, as well as isolated analogue inputs/outputs, 14 bit A/Ds and D/As, encoder input and output and digital I/O.
