Hollow shaft servo actuators March 1st 2006 A compact and lightweight hollow shaft servo actuator from Harmonic Drive is helping to ensure precise alignment of communications antennae on offshore oil and gas platforms.
Developed by Nera Networks, the antennae systems transmit voice and data signals between platforms and support vessels.
The company worked closely with Harmonic Drive to develop a stabilising system based around the FHA-C hollow shaft servo actuator, to control movement of each antenna about the azimuth and elevation axes.
The FHA-C combines an AC motor, gearbox and encoder in a single, fully integrated unit, and can produce high levels of torque and positional accuracy. Gear technology is based on a simple, three-part assembly, with integrated Wave Generator, Flexspline and Circular Spline forming a robust mechanism. This is said to offer exceptional positioning accuracy. More articles from Harmonic Drive UK Ltd: |
