Removes oil mist
May 1st 2007

Carter Environmental Engineers (CEE) has installed an abatement plant to remove oil mist generated during the cold reduction of sheet steel products at the Llanwern steelworks of Corus.

Four carter-Midac Pacific oil mist collectors remove oil mist prior to discharge to atmosphere, with a guaranteed emission level of 5mg/Nm3 and anticipated emission level of 1mg/Nm3.

The mist is a water-based coolant with a 2 to 4.5% oil content, plus any particulate collected by the mist.

Pacific oil mist units are of the coalescing type and use four stages of filtration: the first is a stainless steel coarse mesh filter pad; the second a polypropylene coalescing filter; the third and fourth stages use an ultra high efficiency cellular inertial filter made of plastic that removes virtually all the mist droplets.
