The new Beckhoff TwinCAT Backup software package, available in the UK from Hayes Control Systems, is designed for users of pc-based automation systems and enables them to run their plant to service after a hardware failure in the shortest possible time and with a minimum of user input.

In addition to storing programs, recipes and process data, the package stores all data required to set up a replacement pc. This includes, for example, the pc name and user information, the configuration of the network to which the pc is connected, and the fieldbus card settings. This enables the new machine to be set up quickly and accurately.

The replacement pc can have different fieldbus cards and even a different operating system. Within practical limits, these differences are automatically catered for, that means users do not need to stock multiple spare pcs.

The system is compatible with all types of backup media, including disks, USB memory sticks and network drives.
