Electronic recorder
July 1st 2008

RAC Autowindscreens in to be pumped.

Chesterfield now has easier access to production information following the installation of a videographic recorder with batch functionality from ABB.

The SM1000 electronic recorder saves the company having to sift through paper charts and has opened up new possibilities for interrogating and analysing recorded data.

As well as standard batch features, including local and remote control, the recorders include a lifecycle analysis function. Users can obtain records for every stage of the production process using ABB's DataManager data analysis software. The operator enters information that is recorded alongside process data. Data is archived and used by the DataManager software to give a production history for each batch.

Commenting on the system's ease of use, Mark Gascoigne, shift manager, says " A BSI inspector visits us every three months and previously had to look through 120 paper charts.

Now, we just type in the batch number and the data comes up."
