Cementing a relationship with ABB's transmitters September 1st 2008 CEMEX's Rugby Cement
manufacturing facility is
standardising on fieldmountable
temperature transmitters
from ABB following successful
trials on a rotary cement kiln.
The plant produces 4200t of
cement each day, and it's vital to
keep the kiln turning. The ABB
TTF300 temperature transmitter
monitors the temperature of one of
the bearings responsible for
carrying the enormous weight of
the kiln.
The only thing keeping the two
faces of the white metal bearing
apart is a thin layer of lubricant. If
the bearing temperature starts to
rise, it can indicate a problem with
the lubricant, trouble with the
lubricant supply system or
excessive load due to a problem
with the kiln. An alarm trips if the
temperature climbs to 80°C
because excessive temperatures
will damage the bearing.
The transmitter is easy to
program. It needs neither
computer nor specialised
technician to configure it.
The first transmitter has been
installed for more than a year
without needing any maintenance
and the company has just installed
two more. More articles from ABB Limited: |
