Helping ensure soda quality September 1st 2007 Brunner Mond BV, a
producer of soda ash,
has selected Krohne's
BM70 A high
temperature level radars
to measure the precise
availability of coke and
limestone chunks used
in the production of
soda.
Soda manufacture is
an exact process and the
level radars perform an
essential role in making
sure the required amounts of coke
and limestone are available to be
mixed together.
The application is made
particularly difficult due to the
continuous presence of smoke,
dust and high temperature in the
40m high vessels that contain the
materials.
The BM 70 A level radar is noncontact
and uses electromagnetic
waves to detect the surface of
materials. It is capable of
measuring to a depth of 100m.
Operation of the instrument makes
it possible to 'cut through' the dust
and smoke to the depth required
to deliver accurate, reliable level
measurement.
The high temperature version of
the BM 70 A is fitted with a
distance piece, designed to protect
the electronics from heat. This
enables the instrument to operate
reliably at high temperatures.
The BM 70 A meters have also
been installed in the plaster lime
bunkers, where the incinerated
lime (stone) is stored, as well as in
the ground lime (stone) bunkers. More articles from Krohne Measurement & Control Limited: |
