Steeled for tough task July 1st 2007 Celsa has chosen compact
and robust ABB pressure
transmitters for its arduous
steel re-rolling environment
in Cardiff.
The company operates a
rod mill which produces
coiled steel with a diameter
of between 5.5 and 25mm,
and a bar mill which
produces fixed lengths of
straight steel between 8 and
40mm in diameter.
Most of the ABB 261
transmitters are used on the
plant's lubricant oil
circulation system.
Steve Thomas, engineer,
comments "If the lube
system fails, there are
interlocks that will prevent
us using the machinery and
the resulting downtime
could cost us several
thousand pounds per hour."
The transmitters feature
maintenance-free design
and corrosion-resistant
casing. They are easy to set
up and operate and offer a
standard 4-20mA output,
with HART communication.
Base accuracy is ±0.15%
of calibrated span. More articles from ABB Limited: |
