Safety and less downtime January 1st 2004 Cabot Plastics has improved productivity since the trapped key interlocking safety systems on its Banbury mixers were modified by Castell in partnership with Vital Link.
Comprehensive interlocking systems had been in place for many years at the companys Cheshire site. However, the publication of BS EN1203 prompted Cabot to introduce an integrated system that has enabled routine maintenance tasks on its three intensive mixers to be carried out in a third of the time previously taken.
The new system automatically monitors the condition of the mixers and interrupts machinery when cleaning or maintenance needs to be undertaken. It uses fewer trapped-key interlocks and only allows operators part-body access at a single point in the process. The short system has reduced downtime to just 5min.
