Hospital cuts maintenance costs with new software September 1st 2006 Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has reduced the cost of maintenance since installing Shire Systems' FrontLine Maintenance Management software.
Known for its pioneering work in heart transplant surgery, Papworth has a vast inventory of life-critical equipment and extensive facilities.
Maintaining all assets with a paperbased, manual system placed a heavy burden on the resources of the Trust's Estates Department.
With Papworth's previous maintenance management software administration costs were significant and delays of up to three months in producing management reports were unacceptable.
Shire was asked to review Papworth's maintenance strategy and recommend a system which would help improve productivity and cut admin costs.
The Trust opted for a FrontLine maintenance module as the central building block of its new system.
This maintains a comprehensive inventory of assets and equipment and manages PM schedules and corrective maintenance.
Work Requester, Data Exchange, HandiWorks and HandiReadings modules were added to maximize productivity. The maintenance management team can now issue detailed work orders to their engineers' PDAs. Job reports are returned to the system simply by docking a PDA in a cradle.
Delays in processing paperbased reports have been eliminated and FrontLine enables more accurate, up-to-date monitoring and control of work and makes better use of engineers' time. More articles from Shire Systems Ltd: |
