Maintenance bill cut by 10% September 1st 2008 ABB says maintenance costs at
PolymerLatex UK site have fallen
by more than 10% following work
carried out by ABB's full service
TM team.The achievement comes
in the second year of a five-year
performance based contract to
manage PolymerLatex's entire UK
maintenance operations at its site
in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.
The site specialises in the
production of polymer products
and other lattices for diverse
applications.
ABB is responsible for all
maintenance-related activities and
equipment at the plant. It manages
the operations against agreed
targets and incentives for plant
performance and total cost of
maintenance.
PolymerLatex UK had identified
by internal benchmarking the need
to bring its maintenance operation
to current best practice.
"The benefit of using ABB full
service TM was that they could
provide an overview of best
practice from all over the world,"
explains Andreas Ostrowicki, MD
PolymerLatex UK. "Our old system
of maintenance was too reactive.
ABB has helped us identify faulty
equipment, installed systems
designed to drive costs down and
implemented a truly proactive
approach in maintenance."
As well as improving
maintenance procedures, ABB has
introduced tools to measure plant
efficiency such as Overall
Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
"Initially ABB has helped our
manufacturing improvement teams
to work better and introduced
some valuable ideas to improve
manufacturing efficiency," says
Ostrowicki. The contract is based
on a five-year improvement plan. More articles from ABB Limited: |
