Maintenance on the move
November 1st 2007

Idhammar has introduced powerful maintenance management modules for PDA devices. These provide the maintenance engineer with modern data access and capture techniques in order to view and record essential maintenance information without the need to sit at their desk.

The four key PDA-based maintenance application areas include: Plant inspection – daily rounds of inspection or lubrication are downloaded to a hand-held device and displayed on the PDA screen, together with the equipment description and location. Equipment condition and feedback statements are captured automatically using check-boxes and work orders can be generated when a fault is discovered.

Meter readings – users of meter-based planned maintenance will also be able to capture current meter readings.

Work order management – exported to the individual PDA device where they can be read and updated with each work order recorded complete in real time.

Inventory Management – enables stock to be identified, located, issued and checked remotely.

John Roberts, MD of Idhammar Systems, says "Our PDA-based system eliminates the need for paper reports, and by capturing feedback in real-time through the PDAs intuitive interface we can also automatically feed the updated maintenance information back into the MMS to remove the need for additional data entry."
