Vibration levels -
May 1st 2007

Monitran, a world leader in the design and manufacture of vibration sensors, has launched VI-sage ("visage"), a combined hardware and web-based solution that enables companies to monitor remotely vibration data as part of their asset management and predictive maintenance routines.

Further, VI-sage can also notify users, via SMS text messaging and email, if userdefined vibration levels are reached.

Employing the technologies of UKbased t-mac, the VI-sage hardware is available with either eight or 26 input channels (for sensors) and either four or 16 outputs respectively. Users can log into their accounts (from any PC with Internet access) and check near real-time data, view historical data and control VI-sage's outputs.

Neill Ovenden, Monitran's sales and marketing director, comments: "By enabling users to access vibration levels via the web we're making visible, from anywhere in the world, the very information that will help companies realise truly cost-effective, remote monitoring and control. There's no need for expensive cables, no need for bespoke software and, if all's well, a reduced need for site visits." The VI-sage hardware units can either connect directly to accelerometers and other sensors or they can interface with one or more networks of sensors via Monitran's MultiSelect products. The units also integrate seamlessly with Monitran's shutdown protection systems.

Data is uploaded to www.vi-sage.com into secure user accounts. Ovenden adds: "The VI-sage web server provides users with 24-7 access to their data, in the form of graphs and tables." Data can also be exported as comma separated values (i.e.

.csv files) for analysis in spreadsheet and database packages. VI-sage (hardware) settings are made on the web site and then automatically downloaded to the units, where the new configuration takes immediate effect. In addition, the site's user interface can be customised to present the most relevant data in the most relevant format, and it is easy to set up additional user accounts - configuring each with varying levels of access.

Ovenden concludes: "It's easy to imagine a scenario where a maintenance engineer may be at home but on call-out.

Upon receipt of an email or text message, the engineer could access the asset's condition monitoring solutions and decide whether corrective measures can be implemented remotely or whether a site visit is necessary." To celebrate the launch of this system, Monitran is, throughout the remainder of 2007, offering a 50% discount on all accelerometers ordered with VI-sage.
