PC for tough environments
March 1st 2006

The Katana series of fully integrated, rugged PC terminals from Captec is suited to shop floor MES/ERP/MRP client applications.

Purpose designed to withstand the rigours of factory floor environments, the Katana series provides cost effective installation and control of IT and automation applications in places where conventional PCs are either unsuitable, unable to cope or have a limited lifespan. The new series incorporates all three functional parts of a PC - CPU, monitor and keyboard/mouse - in a compact, rugged and fully sealed, IP65-rated aluminium case.

It features a 1GHz processor, capable of running all windows and linux operating systems, an integral high-brightness 15" LCD display, membrane keyboard and an integral mouse pad. The display has a resolution of 1024x768 and is protected from impact by a toughened clear polycarbonate window and the anti-glare surface enhances visibility by reducing reflections from background lighting. An alternative touchscreen option provides keyboardless user input for faster operation.

To cater for the rigours of industrial applications, the hard disk drive is fitted in an antivibration cradle to provide protection from oscillating machinery and shock. Easy, tidy and unobtrusive cabling is provided via sealed glands in the base. Connectors are hidden behind a removable protective front cover plate, to ensure that cables cannot be disconnected accidentally. Its fan-less design increase reliability.

A multitude of connectivity ports are provided as standard, including Ethernet, USB, parallel and serial ports and, should any additional functionality by required, one PCI Expansion slot is available for a plug-in expansion card. Integral RFID options are also available for increased tracking efficiency.
