Plain steaming
November 1st 2007

To ensure safe operation steam boilers are normally subject to a series of daily, weekly and monthly level, pressure and safety tests. These tests can interfere with production requirements as well as involving site engineering staff in time consuming work.

Babcock Wanson's BW72H Control System alleviates these problems with an array of self checking controls and simple 72 hour and monthly interval checks. This system incorporates an Operating Assistance Module (OAM) with user friendly 8" touch screen which provides clear indication of the system operating conditions while also logging working data and regulatory test actions.

In compliance with EN 12953 and approved under the PED, BW72H coupled to the onboard OAM integrates all necessary control loops for the optimum operation of the boiler. Typical control data that is displayed and logged by the OAM can be as follows:

  • Boiler Water Level
  • Boiler Pressure
  • Burner Control
  • Steam/Water/Fuel Oil
  • 72hour and monthly test log
  • Operating times/no. of starts for each fuel
  • Emissions data (NOx/CO etc)

Daily boiler water level control checks are replaced by a simple 15 minute test every 72 hours which can be completed without stopping the boiler thereby avoiding interference with normal operating and production requirements. The standard daily/weekly boiler water level control mandatory evaporation test is replaced with a monthly test, offering considerable reduction in overall manning and operational costs.

BW72H introduces a new concept of management and supervision to complement the range of Babcock Wanson Fire tube Boilers and Burners, with the boiler log book becoming a thing of the past. All recorded parameters can be downloaded to a remote location, via intranet, modem or simply by using the included flash card.

High integrity systems and ease of operation inspires confidence within operators and removes any confusion over mandatory testing. Integration of the Babcock Wanson BW72H with OAM guarantees these benefits under stringent control conditions.
