Reacts to rising vibes
May 1st 2008

When fixed to a piece of plant or equipment, the VS0004 vibration switch module from Monitran can respond to a rise in vibration levels in a number of user-definable ways.

It has two alarm levels, with the user able to set Alarm 1 between 1 and 50mm/s and with Alarm 2 capable of being set as a multiple of Alarm 1 – 1.5, 2, 3 or 5x. The unit has a 4-20mA output scaled to Alarm 2, so can be interfaced with PLCs or other control circuitry.

The VS0004 contains a doublepole, double-throw relay for each alarm level, and the user effectively wires to the normally open or normally closed contacts, depending on what action is to be taken when an alarm limit is reached. The switching capability of each relay is 8A at 240V AC or 30V DC.

The switch module also has a 10sec Alarm On time constant and a 30sec start-up delay, useful if the unit is attached to machinery that naturally shakes during power-up.
