Station order
July 1st 2006

ABB is to supply 52 differential pressure transmitters to Scottish Power's 1200mW coal-fired Cockenzie Power Station.

The station uses pulverised fuel produced on site in a grinding mill. Air blows through the mill from a primary air fan to pick up coal dust and deliver it to the boiler where it burns to produce the heat energy for steam generation. It is vital that the air picks up fragments of coal at just the right size. If the air flow is too low, it will not pick up enough pulverised fuel; if it is too high, it will pick oversized particles.

Air flow is controlled by primary air fans, and ABB pressure transmitters will enable the automated control system to keep fans working at precisely the right rate. ABB's 2600T differential pressure transmitters offer accuracy of 0.04% over a span from 0.5mbar to 100bar.
