Filter protects cooling system
March 1st 2004

Use of low-grade water from rivers or the sea is becoming more prevalent as sources of high quality water become scarcer and more expensive. Recognising this, Alfa Laval has re-launched its cooling system filter, ALF, for use with plate heat exchangers and tubular exchangers. Installed between the water inlet and heat exchanger and used as an integral component in the cooling system, ALF removes any debris before it can cause damage. The pressure filter can be mounted directly onto pipework at the heat exchanger inlet. It is suitable for connections from 100 to 600mm in size and within a flow range of 45 to 5000m3/h. It can be mounted in almost any position and, because the inlet and outlet are at right angles to each other, it can be accommodated on the 90 bend closest to the exchanger to be protected. This means the basket can be accessed without disturbing or removing the connections. ALF has an automatic flushing facility: a flushing valve; and a flow diverter regulated by a plc.
