Linear guide that needs no lubrication
September 1st 2003

When igus (UK) was developing its new linear guide its aim was to make best possible use of space and allow variety, but without the need for lubrication.

The modular DryLin W system was the result. Rail widths of 40 and 80mm allow several combinations alongside different carriage lengths of 100, 150 and 200mm. The system can be expanded as required by using a longer rail width and by increasing the spacing between carriages.

Such design flexibility means the system can be used in a variety of applications and be built around pre-existing design constraints.

With the single rail DryLin W system applications involving a corner or rail misalignment up to 90 can be resolved. The danger of the system seizing is said to be eliminated as the carriage can rotate around the shaft to tolerate small, misaligned angles. The new guide can also be used with standard aluminium profile systems.

The DryLin system has a possible moment of resistance of 96 to 400Nm, depending on the size of the guide. Static load capacity is about 4800N in all directions of load and for all sizes. The new guide is said to be 100% maintenance and lubrication-free.
