NOW MODIFIED November 1st 2003 CompAir has modified its gas boost compressor range to ensure compliance with the EU atex directive that became mandatory on 1 July.
The new system uses the companys vane regulated speed gas compressors and is designed to take advantage of the increase in demand for chp systems in the UK.
Using a sparkproof electric motor, all of the electrical contact gear has been located in a separate steel enclosure that can be remotely located outside the Zone 2 classified area. All electrical connections from the compressor to the starter pass through an intrinsically safe barrier, eliminating the potential for sparks within a Zone 2 area.
CompAir developed GBC technology in partnership with Bowman Power Systems. The latter specialises in the development of co-generation systems based on micro turbine generators and focuses on supplying chp systems where exhaust heat is recovered to provide hot water or air conditioning.
