Electrolytic scale inhibitor
July 1st 2004

Testing of WaterMATICs KalGuard+ electrolytic scale inhibitor at Cranfield University has confirmed a reduction in limescale on heating surfaces of 80%.

The new device is based on the companys zinc anode electrolytic design and incorporates electronic controls to precisely match levels of zinc to the hardness of the water.

Testing at Cranfield was carried out in parallel with field trials in commercial and industrial applications and found to control the limescale situation in numerous very hard water areas.

KalGuard+ uses a zinc anode to release small quantities of zinc into the water. These zinc ions act as a seeding ground for the salt crystals, where they stay in suspension and are washed through without sticking to surfaces. Using electronic controls from WaterMATIC, the release of zinc is matched to the hardness of the water to ensure optimum performance.
